Come out for an 18th century fall festival of fun! I’ll be in the schoolhouse as the schoolmarm, giving kids (and adults!) school lessons!
Rain or Shine – there will be plenty for everyone! See you there!
Traditionally the entire town and country side turned out for the annual Market Faire. You will meet skilled 18th c crafts people, re-enactors, and “sutlers”, purveyors of 18th c goods. Enjoy live period music, great food and activities for the children.
New this year! Visit an Iroquois Wigwam in the woods! Engage in the Indian culture through tales with our story teller. There are displays and activities for all. Take time to meet the wonderful teen volunteer who has made the Wigwam a reality!
Traveling “sutlers” or peddlers were always welcome in a country place. Not only did they bring goods for sale, they brought news and stories from the outside world! Take time chat, watch them work, and perhaps even purchase a handmade item from them. (hint: most vendors prefer cash)
Farmer Greiner will have animals for you to pet, the Deacon’s Tavern will be serving the traditional lunch of soup & ham sandwiches. And you will be treated to live period music by local musicians throughout the day!
Be sure to visit with Talley Cavey residents at home, at work and enjoying the Fair. And yes, there are special activities to capture the interest of our younger visitors!
Hydref, which means “autumn”, in Welsh, was named to commemorate the Welsh heritage of some of our early settlers. Come to shop, come to enjoy the 18th century village in real life!
You will be glad you came to the Hydref!
